Why are we destroying ourselves?

Humans are destroying the planet. Look at the BP oil spill, the worst oil spill of all time. Look at the corporation exploiting the planets resources. Look at the plastic epidemic, there is no way we can stop using plastics, we depend on them, also the corporation owns the government, and all the government cares about is the economy. Global warming may or may not be a problem, but if it is, it doesn't seem like people are doing much about it. The world's population is over six billion. The Earth can not sustain this many people, and it can't even sustain the way wealthy countries live right now, billions of people are starving, and the population is growing exponentially. The thing that gets me most is the way that we are OWNED by the corporation. We are only consumers that feed the evil that owns us. They exploit the planet and destroy our only home. How will we survive this? We are in a self destructive cycle and can't get out of it. What will happen?
